Opening Learning Aid files from a link within a PDF:

If you download a PDF to your local computer or device, all Learning Aids (LAs) accessed from the PDF will open in a new window.

However, LAs accessed from a PDF online currently open in the parent browser window. Clicking the browser’s Back button returns you to the beginning of the PDF, rather than to your bookmark. Development of a solution is underway.

In the meantime, here are known workarounds, based on browser:

• Mozilla Firefox--Hold CTRL key and left click to open the LA in a new tab. CTRL-right click gives you the option for opening in new tab or window.

• Google Chrome--Same as Firefox

• Microsoft Edge—Browser back arrow resumes at PDF bookmark. You can also CTRL-left click to open LA in new tab.

• Internet Explorer—No known workaround. We recommend you either download the PDF or use a different web browser.

Viewing a Learning Aid from the portal:

All Learning Aids opened from the portal site will open in a new window. This is across all platforms.

Downloading the Interactive Study Aid:

This download will only work on Microsoft Windows PCs: To run LOMA’S Interactive Study Aid software, your PC must meet the following requirements:

Microsoft Windows XP or later as the operating system. The Interactive Study Aid is a Windows-based program that requires Microsoft Windows XP or higher as your PC’s operating system. Windows 7 or later is recommended.

The .NET Framework 4. The Interactive Study Aid requires Microsoft's .NET Framework 4, which is typically available for installation through Windows Update or via download. For more information, visit http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982670. If you attempt to run the Interactive Study Aid and get an error message saying that you must first install the .NET Framework, then your computer does not have a compatible version of the .NET Framework installed.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 or later. Although the Interactive Study Aid does not require an Internet connection, it does use web browser technology that is only compatible with Microsoft Internet Explorer. It will not work with browsers other than IE.

Javascript (active scripting) enabled in Internet Explorer. The Interactive Study Aid uses Javascript, which is a technology that permits interactive commands within an HTML page. If Javascript is not enabled, you will not be able to use the ISA.

A screen resolution of 1024×768 or higher. The Interactive Study Aid is optimized for a screen resolution of at least 1024×768. You will still be able to use the software at smaller display resolutions, but you will likely have to do considerably more scrolling of pages.

A screen color depth of 16-bit (“high color”) or better. Because the Interactive Study Aid uses high-color graphic elements, a high-color (16-bit) or true-color (24-bit or 32-bit) setting is recommended for your monitor’s color depth. At lower color depths, the appearance of graphics in the Interactive Study Aid will be degraded.
